Weather

Trying to film and advert that uses football and rugby is very difficult in the Winter. Getting all my actors together only for it to rain is very frustrating and getting the filming done took longer than I predicted.

Having had a good weatherd Sunday last week my filming is complete and I am hoping to have my ruff cut done for this friday!!!

What I should have done

Having noted that I should have used my questionaire in greater detail and also researched a behind the scenes of an advert, I still feel that I could have done more.

For example I could have studied shots from other adverts and perhaps used them or shots like them in my avdert. I did do this is one of my shots but I think I could have used it in more. This is something that I will use in my evaluation as it will help to show how I could have improved and done better.
I also feel that my time management could have been better and again this will will be used to form my evaluation. I set myself targets but didn't consider weather circumstances with this and thus my targets were unrealistic as doing an outdoor advert or any type of outdoor filming is difficult to judge due to the fact that you cannot rely on the weather.

Getting my actors together also proved to be difficult after the first filming. They themselves had their own coursework dates and also had other commitments and thus it proved difficult for them to all be tied down to the same place at the same time. Again this can be used in my evaluation as I can talk about the difficulty of bringing them all together at the same time.

How much has my research helped me

I feel that my research has helped me in many way but I also feel that I could and should of done more in order to make my advert better. For example watching many adverts on youtube for companies such as Nike and also watching a powerpoint on the rules of advertising helped me massivly as I then new exacly what I needed to do and also what I couldn't do.

However I beleive I could have researched even further to maxermise the adverts potential to the the target audience. I think I should have attempted to find a behind the scenes of an advert so that I could see exactly what the directors do to prepare for their shots etc.

I also feel that I could have used my questionaire a bit more than I did.Having used the basic answers from it, I did not study it in great detail and didn't really gain any information that I didn't already no, instead it just clarrified what I already new.

Will it work?

Having three different actors going to three different collages makes it very hard for me to bring all of them together at the same time. The actor I wanted to take the penalty was unavialable for filming when I done it so I had to get one of the others to do it. Although he didn't look like a typical footballer he can play and he did well with what I asked him to do. I feel the shot selection mixed in with the heart rate and monitor beating will the audience the affects of using targets sports and make them focus on that.
When edited I will review it and see if he looks good enough as a footballer to be in the finsiehd piece or not.

Music choice

I have decided that for my penalty advert rather than using a fast tempo type of music I am going to try and show the audience something different. I am going to use the sound of a heart beating and show how the pressure of the penalty affects both the goaly and the player. The player is using a target sports ball and this helps him to overcome the situation because he has faith in the quipment he is using!!!

Change in storyboard idea

In my story board I decided I was going to do one of my adverts on a penalty situation. Using the same idea but changing it slightly I have decided to show the viewer how the heart rate increase before during and after a penalty and how using target sports makes you more calm in that type of situation.

Filming so far

Having gatherd my first set of footage I will be beggining to do the editing for my ruff cut this weak. The filming did not take a huge amount of time as I only need twenty five seconds for each advert, however by taking a little extra time than I anticipated I feel that the shots looked better tha they would if I had rushed it.

Im hoping to do my editing on Wednesday the 11th and I feel that I will have my ruff cut done for Friday.

Anamatic- Class feedback

Overall my class seemed to enjoy my anamatic and get the main ideas of what my advert was trying to sell and how it was trying to do this.
They thought that the idea of the players saying ' This is why I choose target sports' was good and they all thought that this was a good selling feature in my advert.
However some of them thought that it would have been better if I changed some of my shots so that rather than all saying at the end this is why I choose target sports they thought it might be better if they did it straight after the score etc.
Furthermore my teacher also said that he thought I should change the music and get something more upbeat to further emphorsise the products quality.
In conclusion I was very pleased with how my anamatic went. I understand that my ideas are along the right lines and with a slight change to some shots I feel I am ready to start filming!!!

Animatic - How I think it went

Overall i feel that my anamatic went quite well. Using the anamatic enabled me to see how my filming is going to look and also enabled me to see if I needed to make any changes.

I felt the the plus points of my anamatic were:
It went down well in the class and the main ideas of the advert seemed to link well.
Also I could see that there was no need to change any shot types as they all seemed to fit well and helped make the scene keep its verisimilitude.

I also felt that there were some down points to my anamatic. These were:
I could have changed some shots around with other shots to make it look better.
Also I could have made one of them longer as an advert has to be no longer than thirty seconds yet mine is only 19seconds so i could have used up to 6secs more filming if needed.

Questionaire sent out

I have printed out my questionaire and people have begun to fill it out. I will draw up the conclusions hopefully by the weekend which means I will be able to see the conclusions by the 20th of september, see what my target audience wants, maybe change a few ideas etc and then crack on with my filming.

Film Noir

. Film Noir always uses a dark background.
. Although I don't plan on using a dark setting, film Noir does use many things can be related to my asdvert
. For example using a dark or plain background makes the audience focus on the character/ characters in view and for my advert this would work as I want the audience to view the logo as much as possible
. Film Noir also uses the fact that what is going on in the world (WW2) to shock the audience and relate the film to your life. In my advert, although not to this extreme I need to make the advert show how my sports equipment fits into the world at this time
. Camera shots and angle are used in film Noir to capture power and to also show what characters are looking at. Again I am filming something very different to what film Noir shows but using shots such as character POV etc is something I am going to use.

Website

Also part of my coursework is to create a web link. As I will be making this after chirstmas I am focusing more on my advert first before the web link however i have decided to call the website www.whatsyourtarget.co.uk. or something simular.

Camera, Editing, Sound, Mese en sene

Using camera, editing, sound and mese en sene i am aim to show the viewer why Targets products are the best.

Camera will be used to show the small interview with the sports person and to show the sporting action taking place. This will mean using a variety of close ups, trackings, mid shots and long shots in order to show things such as running and ball movement.

Mese en senewill be used to show the setting of the place as it needs to be a realistic setting. Their will be a blackout in the interviews however the logo of target will need to be shown many times in the advert. Furthermore the actor or actress needs to always look smart and presentable and look like they are a great talent at the sport.

Editing will be a key factor as an advert is limited for time. Jump cuts will need to be used to show the different interviews and as much time as possible will need to be saved whilst editing.

Sound will also be key to the advert as music is often associated with the best adverts. For example Nike used Elvis Presely's ' A little less conversation' in one of their adverts. Before this advert I had never heard of the song however everytime I and millions of others think of the song I also think of Nike. This is what I need my audience to think with the music that I use.

Company Name

I am thinking that the brand I will advertise will be called target. Targets are used in every type of sport whether setting a target or hitting a target for example a goal. At the end of the advert I will show a link to the taregt website and use a voice over to speak a little mre about the product and where to find it.

New Ideas

Having had a keen interest in sport since being a small child I have always watched a variety of sports and the adverts for products, events and brands. Recently I feel there has been a change in sport advertisement. Having always used famous people to attract the buyer to a product, brands such as Nike and Adidas have now had to slightly change their style of advertisment to further pursuade the audience that their product is the best. Nike and Adidas are now using motivational adverts to attract the audience. For example I recently watched on television an advert where sports stars were shot using a close up and using a slogan for the company. So for example Nike would record Tiger Woods playing a golf shot. Having hit a great shot Woods will turn to the camera and the slogan just do it will appear or he and many other sports stars will say some kind of slogan related to Nike.

Having watched many of these adverts I feel that this is how I would like to create my advert. Using a black out with only the face of each interviewe, I want to show them achieveing with the advertised product and then them sayin the slogan related to the product. For example they could say things such as ( whats your dream) or ( I am number one).

Attracting my audience

Throughout my advert I need to give my target audience something that will make them want to buy my product. The product alone will not do this so I need to use camera, mese en sene, sound and editing to show the product and its qualities in a great light. Using camera to show close ups of the logo, mid shots to show it being used and long shots to show locations will all go towards making the product look better than any other. Using mese en sene to get the right background and clothing for the characters in the advert is also assential. Using editing to get the right flow for the advert and to also cut to different shots in order to show the product at its best from all angles is also very important. Finally the sound will be of huge importance. A song alone can attract a huge audience to a product just because they like the song. For example Nike used Elvis's song ( A little less conversation) and this made a huge nuber of people watch the advert over and over again just to here the song. Furthermore every time they hear the song or think of the song they have Nike the brand in their head aswell which is of great importance to the company as the audience remembers who they are.

Questions in questionnaire

The questions I am going to use in my questionnaire are going to be the same or similar to the following.

   1. What do you expect a sports equipment advert to do to attract your attention?

   2. Do you expect the advert to constantly show the product or constantly show what the product can do?

   3.  Many sports equipment adverts use music do you always like this?

   4. Do you prefer close ups of the product or longer shots or a bit of both?

   5. During adverts do you like to see animation used or not?

   6. Do you like adverts to have follow ons for example the bounty adverts where the two men are always in competition with bounty always winning?

   7. When a product is shown on the advert do you want to know the price there and then or do your prefer checking that out at the shop or on the website?

   8. Do you like the adverts to be funny for example the John Smith beer advert with Johnny Vegas famous line of ( Av It)or do you prefer a more serious advert?

   9. Do you think that having a slogan is a good idea for example Nike has a slogan of ( Just Do It) ?

   10. Would you like to see the equipment or shoe being used or see it avdvertised in a different way?

What my questionnaire needs to show

Having a target audience means that you are trying to sell  product to a certain group and age of people. For example I am aiming to sell sports goods and shoes in particular and am looking to advertise the brand and its logo. Therefore I need to make the advert appeal to mostly males but also some females around the age 10-30. However by showing the website on the advert I need to also make it clear to the older generation audeince that they too can buy products from the company.

Advertising Standards Authority

The ASA look at every advert from television to the internet in order to make shore that nobody is offended by what they are hearing or seeing. Many adverts such as those on alcohol are only shown after 9pm so that children and those who don't watch late night TV aren't offended.

Furthermore the ASA also allows viewers of adverts to complain to them if they are offended by any advert.

Also the ASA has banned adverts on smoking. This is because smoking is unhealthy etc and therefore should not be advertised on television. Alcohol advertisement is also banned until 9pm so that underage drinking is not promoted.

Research

Having looked on the secrets of advertisements slideshow I have found that adverts only last for a maximum of thirty seconds. Although this is not carried out in all adverts as we often see adverts that last for a lot longer however it is the norm for them to be thirty seconds or under. This is done to stop the consumer from getting bored. Not only will they get bored with the advert but they could also get bored with the product which they see every fifteen minutes on an advert. If they become bored with the advert then you are losing out on sales and therefore profit and also giving the brand a bad name resulting in customers moving to a different brand because they are bored with yours. I have learnt from he slideshow that the length of the advert is very important as is the way you portray the product to the consumer.

What is Advertising

Advertising is when you try to show people how good your product is and why you should buy it or buy into its beliefs and ideologies. By using and advert that is catchy or powerful, companies are looking to keep their logo in your minds at al times. Furthermore they are looking to show you that their product is better than anyone else's and that this is why you should buy into them.

Sites used for research

Having only just started my coursework, I have begun to watch adverts on the internet using you tube and google. However I am going to search the secrets of advertising on google as I have been advised by my teacher to view it.

Target Audience

Targeting a specific audience is a key thing that all advertisers have to do. In order to target their specific audiences advertisers need to find out what their audiences needs and requirements are. However many different people have many different needs and requirements so an advertisement group needs to conduct surveys and questionnaires to find out the main points of what its audience want. I am going to create a survey and/or a questionnaire to ask my target audience what sports equipment and shoes they like and why they like them. Furthermore I also want to find out why they like this type of shoe and equipment and why they repeatedly go back to the same company to buy these products. I want to find answers to these questions and a few more so that I can find out what I need to show in my advert that will attract my target audience and make them leave their usual company for mine!!!

Advert Type

Having spoken to my teacher Mr Ford, I have decided to approach my adverts in a slightly different way to how I first imagined it. Aiming to create an adverts for  SPORTSWEAR and EQUIPMENT. I planned on making the advert using running and football. However after discussing this with my teacher we came up with a better idea where the advert could show the viewer the sportswear and equipment from many different sports. Showing the shoes and boots of each sport and how wearing them makes you better would help the audience buy into the dream of the brand!!!

Decision Time

I have decided to do brief number 3 which is to make two adverts, a web pop up and a radio broadcast to advertise the product. Having studied all the different briefs I decided that i would like to attempt either 3 or 4. Looking at what I am good at and what I know more about I decided to make an advert as I am quite interested in adverts and as I think I know the type of advert I am going to make. I feel that both my interest in the style of advert and my media skills will benefit me with making it.
